Hiring Range: $19.50 to $21.00 hourly, depending on qualifications

Work Environment:

The Animal Control Officer will primarily work outdoors, responding to calls and patrolling assigned areas in various weather conditions. The role involves physical activity, including lifting, capturing animals, and potentially stressful situations. The officer will interact with the public, animal owners, colleagues, and other professionals to carry out their duties effectively.

The Animal Control Officer is under limited supervision and is responsible for enforcing State and local animal control laws and ordinances for the Quality of Life Department. They will ensure the health and welfare of all animals and members of the community in the course of their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate animal related reports including complaints of animals creating nuisances, abuse, and neglect.
  • Investigate animal bites; coordinate and assist County Health Department with rabies control.
  • Pick up and dispose of deceased animals; dispose of unclaimed animals as required and ensure proper maintenance of disposal equipment.
  • Utilize proper handling techniques and equipment for restraint and care of animals.
  • Educate the public to increase pet owners' awareness of pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Investigate and ensure compliance of Dangerous Dog ordinance.

Qualifications

Education : High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. Animal Control experience or other experience working with animals.

License/Certificates: Basic and advanced certification will be required through Animal Control and Care Academy (ACCA) within the first 24 months. This could possibly include travel for class certification. Possession of a valid driver's license required.
