Job Summary

The shelter supervisor is responsible for managing the day to day sheltering operations including maintaining accurate records, supervising shelter staff, handling customers, coordinating adoptions, facilitating licensing, assisting with vaccination clinics and much more! The ideal candidate will be energetic, people oriented, dedicated, collaborative and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.

Salary: $26.00-$27.00/hr.-depending on qualifications.

The Animal Shelter Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the City's animal shelter to include supervising the animal shelter coordinator and their duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide public support, in person and by telephone, respond to issues and complaints, and explain departmental policies and law related to animal control; including pet licensing, pet adoption, redemption, general ordinances, and other animal control related inquires.
  • Maintain accuracy of animal database and associated records. Provide statistical reports for users.
  • Coach/lead, motivate, develop, monitor, and evaluate Animal Control Coordinator.
  • Manage cash handling process including receiving, recording, and transferring cash to designated personnel.
  • Coordinate the adoption process, claims of animals, licensing fees, and other transactions.
  • Approve and oversee shelter supplies, administrative supplies, and operational spending related to the animal shelter.
  • Maintaining shelter licensing and overseeing inspections/audits for the KS Dept. of Agriculture to maintain operations.
  • Investigate/monitor complaints regarding shelter personnel (officers not included). Recommends and implements when appropriate any disciplinary action or coaching methods.
  • Responsible for coordinating internal processes involving operations and shelter personnel to maintain scheduling/operations/etc.
  • Coordinating rabies/vaccination clinics, licensing drives in addition to donation programs and volunteer programs
  • Monitoring and managing social media outlets regarding adoptable pets, lost, stray, and found pets.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

Experience: Three or more years of customer service experience in a fast paced multi-tasking environment is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is also required.One year of experience working with animals and understanding of animal behavior/breeds is preferred along with familiarity with Chameleon Animal Shelter Software.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Licenses & Certifications: A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Animal Shelter Supervisor primarily works in office conditions in the Animal Shelter. This may include regular exposure to the odors of animals and noises of impounded animals. Individuals may be exposed to bio-hazardous materials and waste, animals with contagious diseases, zoonotic diseases, parasites, and toxic chemicals. Exposure to aggressive animals and the potential for being bitten exists. Exposure to computer screens and other electronic equipment exists.
