Operations Analyzer Technician

Overview
The purpose of this position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of highly technical and complex on-line water quality analyzers and sampling systems installed throughout the treatment facilities and distribution systems and the validity of the data they produce. The Analyzer Technician is directly responsible for the accuracy, and reliability of data used to prepare reports to state agencies as it pertains to water quality. The Technician shall endeavor to meet or exceed all state and federal water quality standards and regulations; meet or exceed Board policies, goals and expectations; promote security of WaterOne's water system. The Technician shall endeavor to promote safety, environmental stewardship and cost efficiency. As a support function the Technician may be called upon to complement the operations staff by making routine decisions concerning process chemistry, chemical dosage, mechanical equipment operations and distribution system operation; balance flows to basins and reservoirs and maintain system water storage requirements as directed.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions

- Maintain and calibrate highly complex online analytical instruments.
- Responsible for maintenance of online analytical instruments, sample systems, and associated equipment.
- Maintain logs of maintenance activities as directed.
- Responsible for routine data verification on all analyzers.
- Responsible for operating and documenting chlorine and turbidity measuring equipment in a manner consistent with state and federal regulations.
- Maintain a database of verification data as it pertains to regulatory compliance schedules.
- Communicate the status of parts inventory to the shop foreman.
- Maintain reagent, buffer and standard inventory in the analyzer lab.
- Perform all duties pertaining to hazardous waste operations in accordance with all applicable requirements.
- May, on occasion, be required to work extended hours, nights and weekends as needed.

- Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook at a basic level.
- Have the ability to learn necessary transaction in SAP in 90 days.
- Be able to enter operational data.
- Laboratory Testing-Within one year must be able to:
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, clean, and perform routine maintenance of all operator lab and hand held
- Maintain clean analyzer laboratory.
- Perform all required tests including alkalinity, chlorine, hardness, pH, conductivity, turbidity, solids, ammonia, and fluoride.
- Pass performance evaluations on regulatory tests.
- Follow all SOPs.
- Perform accurate data entry.
- Perform proper sample collection.
- Treatment Process:
- Wash filters.
- Locate all pump stations.
- Properly collect samples.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Chemical Feed Systems-Within one year must be able to:
- Change settings on all chemical feeders at all locations.
- Change chlorine tanks.
- Operate all chemical feed systems including flushing, checking and ensure proper operation.
- Record all chemical dosages changes in the database.
- Control Room Operation-Within one year must be able to:
- Navigate to all pumping stations, tanks and facilities on the SCADA screens.
- Acknowledge alarms.
- Start and stop pumps and find dialogue boxes.
- Properly answer the phone.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education, Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- The Technician must be in possession of a valid Kansas Water Supply System Operator Certificate (Class I - IV) within eighteen months of employment
- Must possess a valid driver's license and continuously meet WaterOne driving standards.
- Requires the ability to solve complex problems using math, chemistry, and laboratory knowledge.
- Requires basic personal computer skills and proficiency with databases, reporting, and analyzing data.
- Requires knowledge of hydraulics as they pertain to plant processes.
- Requires knowledge of PLC based microprocessors.
- Requires knowledge of electrical control systems.
- Requires basic mechanical abilities and basic plumbing skills.
- Must have the ability to learn and apply all applicable requirements pertaining to hazardous waste operations.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret technical operations manuals.
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively, orally and written, as well as active listening skills.
- Must be available for call-out.
- Must have a valid driver's license and continually meet WaterOne driving standards.
- At the discretion of the Manager-Production or delegate may be required to fill in for operation staff vacancies.
- Must pass post offer medical exam, including drug screen and background verification (may not apply to current employees).
Preferred Education, Skills & Experience
- Associates Degree in related field or completion of a Technical School in which the course work included some combination of PLC's, hydraulics, electronics, chemistry, instrumentation or other related subjects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally lift/or move up to 100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and 10 pounds constantly. The employee must be able to use a computer for multiple hours a day. The employee must be able to move occasionally from one location to another or be able to remain in a stationary position for up to several hours a day. The employee must be able to use office productivity equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, printer, and copy machine. The employee must be in possession of a licenses and be able to operate a vehicle at any given time. The employee must be able to occasionally position self to inspect, repair, install and remove various items. The employee must be able to distinguish colors.
