Pay Range

$58,148 - $73,848

The Solid Waste Field Operations Supervisor supervises, assigns, and plans the work of others within the Solid Waste Division of the Infrastructure Department to include reviewing the activities and operations of the assigned programs. They contribute to providing an integrated Solid Waste Management system while embracing a forward-thinking approach in support of the City's 2040 future ready strategic plan. This position may oversee and evaluate the various Solid Waste management services and programs including Residential Recycling Collection, Residential Yard Waste Collection and Large Item Bulk Collection and coordinate assigned activities with internal and external agencies. They will perform a wide variety of administrative and support duties for the Solid Waste Division Manager and Assistant Solid Waste Manager and represent the Division/Department at various professional functions and provide information and assistance to city staff and the public regarding assigned programs and services. They will assist in directing the development and implementation of City and Department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area and assist in the development and administration of the Division budget, developing the forecast needs for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies for assigned program areas. They will also take a leadership role in researching and supporting divisional and departmental efforts to improve the safety culture of the city.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, supervise, and review the maintenance of equipment and vehicles associated with collection and operations of the division; assist in the forecast of equipment needs and schedule vehicle and equipment maintenance, as necessary.
  • Coordinate employee's work schedules with operating schedules to ensure proper coverage of all positions for collection services.
  • Prepare a variety of personnel documentation including overtime reports, payroll and related timesheets, and additional correspondence as needed.
  • Compile, track, and report all weight transaction documents associated with collection programs.
  • Participate in the selection, counseling, evaluating, and discipline of employees; implement employee development programs, collaborate with employees to correct deficiencies.
  • Be a leader in the development of the safety culture of the department; ensure the adherence of safe work practices by operations and maintenance personnel; ensure compliance of Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Ensure that the operations associated with the division are following Federal, State, and local codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with office staff to ensure all customer service requests are resolved; respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Establish work standard, review accomplishments of work units and make brief inspections of work in progress to ensure alignment with City goals and missions.

Qualifications

Experience:A minimum of three years progressive experience in assigned functional area (i.e. recycling, residential, commercial collection) is required along with one year of supervisory responsibility.

Education: An Associates degree in a field related to the functional area or equivalent work experience is required.

Licenses & Certifications: Requires a Class B Commercial Drivers License with air-brake endorsement and a good driving record.

Schedule: The typical work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
