The City of Olathe is seeking a full-time Tire Technician to join our Vehicle Maintenance team. Whether you join our team as entry level or experienced, we provide on the job training.
Our team ranks 23rd in the National Association of Fleet Administrators. We use the FASTER fleet management system which is a web-based platform that handles all aspects of maintaining an efficient fleet.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm

A Tire Repairer position requires a Class B CDL with Airbrake endorsement and pass a DOT physical within 6 months of hire. We'll provide you with the opportunity to earn your CDL by participating in the City of Olathe's CDL program. You'll be provided time during the workday to complete the self-paced portion of the training. It's up to you to pass the testing, but our goal is to set you up for success.

- Inspect, repair and maintain all tires and tubes on city units; perform road and field services as required.
- Requisition all necessary materials and equipment needed to perform tire maintenance, repair and replacement, to include various tires and specialty equipment.
- Complete various reports including work orders to document downtime and in-service usage.
- Help supervisors with the purchasing bids on tires and obtaining tires and supplies for the most economical prices and timely delivery.
- Control and maintain tire shop inventory.
- Complete inspections on new units, stripe and decal as needed, help with the set-up of special needs such as lines, toolboxes, etc.
- Help Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent with the auction list of decommissioned vehicles and prepare said vehicles to be sold.

Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience : Three years of experience in tire repair or related field. Materials, methods, practices, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of tires and other automotive equipment, to include basic mechanical aptitude.
Education : High School graduate or GED.
Licenses and Certificates : Possession of valid Class B CDL (with air brakes) required, or acquisition of said license within 6 months of employment required.
